Fake doctor uses forged Oxford degree to operate in Germany

Berlin

A bored German banker who faked a university diploma to realise his dream of becoming a surgeon was jailed yesterday for three years.

The 29-year-old man created a certificate from Oxford University on his computer and applied for a job at Erlangen university clinic in Bavaria, where he was taken on as a trainee doctor. He took part in 190 operations, including 17 organ operations.

A spokesman for the clinic said: “The head of the clinic never noticed anything out of the ordinary with his work. No one would have noticed if it hadn’t been for an anonymous tip-off.” (AFP)
